Great Fest is the major style film competition in the U.S., specializing in horror, fantasy, sci-fi, action, and just simple great videos from about the planet. The competition has released and propelled the buzz for international style hits like The Human Centipede, Monsters, Timecrimes, and Trollhunter. Great Fest is held each 12 months at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema on South Lamar.

The competition, founded in 2005 as a weekend showcase by pals Tim League of Alamo Drafthouse, Harry Knowles of Ain’t Interesting News, Paul Alvarado-Dykstra, and Tim McCanlies, author of The Iron Big and Secondhand Lions, has turned into an icon in the competition circuit among fans and filmmakers.
